Championing Antimicrobial Stewardship in Companion Animal Medicine

CAAMS is a dedicated committee of ISCAID, formed to advance antimicrobial stewardship in companion animal health. Our mission is to promote the responsible use of antimicrobials through research, education, and collaboration, ultimately protecting both animal and public health.

Antimicrobial resistance is a global challenge, and companion animals are an important part of the stewardship conversation. CAAMS brings together veterinarians, researchers, and educators from around the world to lead and support efforts that ensure effective and sustainable antimicrobial use in veterinary settings.

Our Focus Areas

 

CAAMS organizes its work into four collaborative working groups:

This group is working to develop practical guidance and implementation tools to help veterinary hospitals design, launch, and maintain effective antimicrobial stewardship programs.

Sharing and Creating Antimicrobial Stewardship Resources

This group aims to curate and create resources that support antimicrobial stewardship implementation in clinical practice, including protocols, client communication tools, case studies, and decision-support materials.

This group advances antimicrobial stewardship in veterinary medicine through multi-institutional collaborative research and the development of evidence-based practices to enhance the effectiveness, sustainability, and optimal use of antimicrobials.

This group designs educational initiatives for veterinary professionals, students, and pet owners to raise awareness and build stewardship capacity across all levels of care.
